Periodontal disease is caused by food that sticks in between your teeth, which then produces bacteria. This layer of food debris and bacteria is called plaque. Diagnosis

Sulcus (Spacing)


First, the spacing between your teeth and gums is measured using a periodontal probe. Our dentists gently do this without causing any pain. This helps determine whether the sulcus is healthy or not.

Bleeding


A bleeding gum is a symptom of periodontal disease. Our dentists will examine any bleeding and determine the cause.

Stages of Periodontal Disease


Gingivitis


Gingivitis is the beginning stage of periodontal disease. The plaque starts to irritate the gums and teeth. This is the first stage, so the gums may or may not bleed.

Periodontitis


Periodontitis is the stage where the gums start to move back from the teeth. The plaque turns into calculus. The calculus starts to get to be filled in the spaces left by the gums (Sulcus). The gums start to bleed.

Advanced Periodontitis


This is a serious condition of periodontal disease, as the teeth lose support from the gums and the supporting bones. It leads to the loss of teeth if not treated.

Scaling and Root Planning


Scaling and root planning are special types of periodontal cleanings. Scaling is used to remove calculus from the gums precisely while the roots of the teeth are made smooth using the planning method. Our dentists do this one quadrant of the mouth at a time to get the best results.

Periodontal Surgery


Periodontal surgery is the treatment method used for the patient’s suffering from advanced periodontitis. This is recommended if the scaling and root cleaning methods fail to eliminate the calculus.
